Great way to introduce someone to the basics February 14, 2009 Kim Flournoy (San Francisco, CA) 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
While this book is geared towards beginners, I'm finding that it's very useful to me when I'm talking with clients who might be confused about the basics of website development. If I'm struggling to explain something clearly, I can just pull this book off the shelf and get some ideas on how to communicate these concepts. The book even talks about search engine optimization and buying ads on Google, which are definitely areas that are of interest to new website owners. I'm going to read through it again and highlight key concepts, so I can find them again when I need them!
Practical advice for anyone starting or growing a business December 23, 2008 Bert Carelli (California, USA) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Years ago, one of the first things anyone did when they started a small business was to print up business cards. Today, a website and a strategy for getting people to find your website is just as important as business cards were back then. Jean Bedord's book is the perfect guide to building such a professional presence on the web.
Jean's step-by-step approach enables even a web novice to decipher the mysteries and avoid the pitfalls of working with web search engines. The chapter, "Making Your Website Findable in the Search Engines," contains advice that many of the top corporate sites would do well to absorb.
One of the most powerful aspects of having a website to promote your business is the opportunity it gives even the smallest business to appear large and well-established. This book is a well-researched, well-written, and easy-to-follow guide for achieving that.
Very good book! December 11, 2008 A. Lee (Menlo Park, CA USA) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
At last, I've found a good reference which explains what I need to know so I can
* Consolidate, organize, and simplify my email accounts. (Mine have multiplied with time.)
* Have a universal, personal email domain. This means I will no longer need to notify friends and associates that I am (what, again?) changing my email address.
* Create and improve my personal/business internet presence with my own website.
This book was not written for the already tech-savvy crowd, but for the rest of us.
I'm glad to have the steps to follow, accompanied by important explanations. It was written for those who want to know "how things work" and those who like "do it yourself."
This was the missing volume on my resource shelf!

If you want to sort through all the dense techie speak and get a web site working for you, you must get "I Have a Domain Name, Now What?"

Although I have several websites myself...I found new information...lots of ah ha moments of "so that's why it's done that way," and ended up with suggesting this book to many of my coaching clients who have been hesitant to put up a site because they didn't know how to manage the project.
